Rose Rosette symptoms on Rose

IllustrationRose Rosette (cause not confirmed): This disease has all the characteristics of a virus infection. The disease agent is transmitted by a microscopic sized eriophyid mite. Symptoms include distorted, small leaves, short internodes, red pigmentation of foliage and excessive thorniness. Infected plants generally die within one year. Hybrid tea roses are poor hosts for the mite. Rose rosette has not been identified in landscape plantings in Texas but has been diagnosed in multiflora rose.
